Artistic Director, Southern Utah University

In spring 2025, we embarked on a groundbreaking endeavor at Southern Utah University's concert hall—a fusion stage combining the Eastern body art of YiShuiKong with Western symphony orchestra. As Artistic Director, I felt this transcended mere stage collaboration to become a cross-cultural educational exploration.

Master Lin Yang's presence on stage embodied both serenity and strength, holding firmness within softness, stillness within movement. YiShuiKong's water-like circular and fluid movements, combined with the hidden jin (internal power) of Yin Family Baguazhang, resonated magnificently with the music's rhythm and emotional undulations. It was as if body and music engaged in wordless dialogue, painting a living scroll of Eastern artistry.

Throughout my career, I've aimed to integrate Eastern cultural essence into Western music education. This performance represented the fruition of years of exploration. The audience didn't simply 'listen' to music—they could 'see' it through Master Lin's embodiment. Watching music flow through her body, transform, and transcend was the very essence of artistic mastery.

I'm convinced that such cross-cultural artistic collaboration brings fresh perspective to contemporary music education, and that Eastern wisdom makes unique contributions to global cultural fusion.
