When I started running long-distance track in high school, I realized that the way I used my body was completely different from Bagua Zhang. On most days, I could run many kilometers without getting tired, yet even a short practice of Bagua Zhang would make my body quickly fatigued. I actually find this to be one of the fascinating aspects of Bagua Zhang. Its signature walking in circles not only trains the body but also sharpens the mind.
Through this, I began to see similarities between Bagua Zhang and my daily activities, such as running. It’s scientifically proven that running has a calming effect on the mind, but walking in circles, as in Bagua Zhang, is something rare and uniquely interesting. The circular walking maintains a steady rhythm and offers a constant visual field, which brings a sense of mental calm. Moreover, because Bagua Zhang requires intense concentration, I feel it has helped me sustain a high level of focus when studying.
It has also trained me to pay attention to the smallest details of the body, which I believe has improved my observation skills and made me more considerate toward others.
I hope to continue practicing Bagua Zhang while also integrating its elements into my everyday life. I look forward to the continued guidance and support from my teachers.
