What Is Suikyo-den?

Through meeting and teaching many students of Yishuikong, I have come to realize that each person already carries unique experiences, talents, and a world of their own.

Rather than changing who you are, I began to ask: Could Yishuikong help bring out more of what is already within you, and support you in moving toward your own dreams? It was from this idea that Suikyo-den was born.

Yishuikong includes foundational practices for cultivating the body and breath, as well as 52 movement forms inspired by nature and the rhythms of life. In Suikyo-den, you work together with an instructor to select the forms that resonate with your sensibilities, strengths, and the future you wish to create.

In Japanese culture, the mirror has long carried a special meaning. A mirror does not add anything—it simply reflects what is already there. Suikyo-den is much the same. Through its movements, I hope you will discover and express the beauty, awareness, and potential that already exist within you.

Once you have mastered your selected forms, you may bring them into your own work, creative expression, teaching, or everyday life—and share them with others in a way that is uniquely your own.

Suikyo-den is for those who wish not simply to follow someone else’s Yishuikong, but to discover “Yishuikong as my own.”

I hope it will support you in taking the next step toward a path that is truly yours.
